Equine Therapy

We partnered with Gift Horse Equine Connection, a local Tucson nonprofit, to provide group and individual equine therapy sessions. Equine therapy is an experiential treatment method that uses the connection between people and horses to enhance physical or emotional healing. Different forms of equine therapy may be used depending on the client's needs. Each session is done with a licensed therapist and a certified horse handler.

P.A.T.L.E.

Pro-Active Therapy is streamlining extracurricular activities to community resources such as sports, art, music, business, technology, and vocational trades. Life Enhancement centers around assisting the client and the household to address any obstacles to their present and future goals. Such as finances, jobs, education, training, or transportation by creating practical plans. This includes managing the follow-up to those plans until the desired results are achieved and maintained. The results of the services offered by P.A.T.L.E. will be measured by school attendance, performance in school, consistent appropriate engagement in medical and behavioral health services, crisis and emergency service needs, inpatient service needs, retention, and graduation. Additional critical measures will be college acceptance with 5 years follow-up survey, employment and work retention of client and household members, as well as law enforcement contact and recidivism rates of probationers. It is widely accepted and agreeable that these measurements are consistent with effective treatment and successful recovery.

The focused and streamlined nature of the P.A.T.L.E. design establishes consistent engagement processes with the client and allows for more flexibility to the needs and interests of the client while matching the measurable results. Removing barriers and streamlining community resources while ensuring engagement is less complicated than also attempting to provide services, making it easier to set up, track, and change.

For example, suppose a client is referred to P.A.T.L.E. In that case, P.A.T.L.E. will work with the client in identifying a passion, hobby, or activity in which the client enjoys participating or plans to learn for a future career path. Suppose the client loves music and dreams of working in the music industry. In that case, P.A.T.L.E. will assist the client by streamlining the client’s access to lessons, music studios, internships, performances, and professionals in the industry and assist the client in having a practical plan for pursuing their career goals in music. The same is for all sectors of interest such as art, business, sports, agriculture, or any other industry or interest in which the client wishes to create and attain their goals.

Heritage Behavioral Health Foundation is proudly partnered with Gift Horse Equine Connection, a local 501 (c)(3) non-profit in Tucson, to offer the community equine therapy. We work closely together to develop therapeutic programs to better serve our clients through a hands on approach with the horses. Our programs involve working with horses under the supervision of a licensed mental health specialist, a horse trainer, and equine specialist. Equine therapy has been used to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, eating disorders, addiction, and a host of other mental health issues in both children and adults. We also believe it helps patients develop self-awareness, confidence, animal handling skills, critical thinking, and empathy. All the horses at Gift Horse are rescues! Support Group

Valkyrie Initiative’s mission is to help survivors of sexual assault by offering support through advocacy, behavioral health, legal counsel, health, spirituality, community programs, and education to support them in reclaiming their power.

The Valkyrie Initiative is an Arizona domestic non-profit and, on July 9, 2021, became a program of Heritage Behavioral Health Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, who provides administrative support and fiscal sponsorship. The Valkyrie Initiative was founded by sexual assault survivors for sexual assault survivors. The purpose was to show the survivor's transformation is possible and attainable. We provide support in order to guide them through their own journey of recovery by offering a community of “Valkyries.” Our Valkyries include attorneys, behavioral health professionals, business owners, and artists to name a few, all of which are survivors and advocates.

Nationwide, 81% of women and 43% of men reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment and/or assault in their lifetime (x). Simple numbers-wise, as of July 1, 2021, there were 164.38 million males and 167.51 million females living in the United States. That means 135,683,100 women and 70,683,400 men, with a total of 206,366,500 people who have experienced sexual assault and harassment in their lifetime, which is 62% of the population. We are failing as a society, and something needs to change. It is something that affects all of us, and it is time for a change to happen, and it starts with us.

What we offer is community ties, education, and therapeutic approaches, and we provide a positive environment that has the ability to be completely online because we want to be as accessible as possible to ensure the success of each survivor.

If you are a member of the local community, either as an individual or a business, please reach out to see how you can get involved as well. If you’re not a member of the local community but still want to get involved please reach out. We are always looking for new Valkyries, so if you are a sexual assault survivor or know someone who is a sexual assault survivor, we would love your support please reach out to our intake department so we can discuss the best role for you in the Valkyrie Initiative.
